At Growing Choices, we believe that when children are understood from the very beginning, their whole learning journey can change.
Recently, we shared the story of a new kindergarten opening in Kakamega, a vision led by Geoffrey, whose work continues to grow in both depth and impact.
Today, we are so pleased to share an update.
A Growing Vision
Geoffrey’s work in Kakamega has been quietly expanding over time.
He currently manages:
1 E-Zee Math Tutoring Centres in Kakamega town
3 additional centres across Kakamega County
A brand new school: The Kakamega Global Star Academy
The maths tutoring centres continue to support many children, especially older learners who need extra help with understanding and confidence. But starting a school with a kindergarten class means something different again.
Through this work, Geoffrey began to see something important.
Starting at the Beginning
While the tutoring centres provide valuable support, they often come after a child has already experienced difficulty.
Geoffrey recognised that something more was possible.
What if children could begin their learning journey differently?
What if:
learning started with understanding
classrooms were smaller and more supportive
and children were not separated from their peers for remedial support
Instead of feeling “less than,” children could learn alongside their friends, their big sisters and brothers, in a way that works for them.
A Strength-Based Approach for Every Child
This vision led to the creation of the Kakamega Global Star Academy kindergarten, a space where children can begin their education with a strong, positive foundation.
Here, the focus is on:
recognising each child’s strengths
supporting neurodiversity from the start
and creating an environment where every child is considered, valued, and supported
Using principles aligned with Davis Methods, children are given the opportunity to:
understand how they learn
develop focus and awareness
and build confidence from the very beginning
This is not about fixing children.
It is about meeting them where they are, and helping them grow.
Learning Together, Not Apart
One of the most powerful aspects of this approach is inclusion.
Rather than removing children from their classmates for extra help, the learning environment itself is designed to support everyone.
This means:
no separation
no stigma
no feeling of being behind
Instead, children grow together, each learning in their own way, at their own pace.
Two Spaces, One Purpose
The recent photos shared by Geoffrey reflect this beautiful progression:

This is what makes this work so meaningful.
Looking Ahead
