From Fear to Hope: How Learning is Changing Lives at Kakamega Global Star Academy

"Every child deserves to feel safe, understood, and excited to learn."

When we look at the smiling faces of the children at Kakamega Kindergarten, it is hard to imagine that, for some children, school was once a place of fear.

One story that has stayed with us is that of a young boy whose dyslexia was misunderstood as laziness. Every day he faced punishment at school because he struggled to learn. At home, he feared more punishment because he could not meet expectations that no one realised were beyond his control.

Caught between fear at school and fear at home, he often hid in the sugar cane fields rather than face another day of misunderstanding.

His story is a powerful reminder that children are never "lazy." When a child is struggling, there is always a reason. With understanding, patience, and the right support, lives can change.

Today, Kakamega Kindergarten is helping to create a different future for children.

A Place Where Children Feel Safe to Learn

The classroom is filled with smiles, curiosity, and calm.

The peaceful expressions on the children's faces tell their own story. Here, children are encouraged, supported, and celebrated as they learn at their own pace.

The teachers are creating an environment where every child feels seen, valued, and capable.

Learning Through Play

Children learn best when they are actively involved in their learning.

Play encourages curiosity, communication, creativity, and problem-solving. Every game, activity, and shared experience becomes an opportunity to build confidence and develop essential life skills.

Learning becomes something children look forward to rather than something they fear.

Learning Through Clay

Clay modelling has become a wonderful part of the children's learning experience.

Working with clay strengthens fine motor skills while encouraging imagination, concentration, and self-expression. It is a simple but powerful way for children to engage their minds and hands together.

Multi-Sensory Learning

Every child learns differently.

By using multi-sensory approaches, children learn through seeing, hearing, touching, moving, and doing. These methods make learning more meaningful, memorable, and enjoyable while supporting a wide range of learning styles.

Children become active participants in their own learning journey.

Growing Character Through The Virtues Project

Education is about far more than academic success.

The Virtues Project is helping children develop kindness, respect, responsibility, honesty, courage, and compassion.

These values are woven into everyday classroom life, creating a nurturing environment where children learn to care for themselves and for one another.

The result is not only happier learners but stronger communities for the future.

Tracksuit Thursday

One of the highlights of the week is Tracksuit Thursday.

Dressed in their tracksuits, the children enjoy active outdoor learning and play, building coordination, teamwork, confidence, and healthy habits while having fun together.

Movement is an essential part of childhood learning, and these joyful experiences help children grow in every way.

Looking Back... and Looking Forward

The photographs of the kindergarten before the improvements remind us just how far this journey has come.

What was once a much more limited learning environment has become a vibrant place filled with opportunity, creativity, laughter, and hope.

Every improvement, every resource, every donation, and every person who has supported this project has helped make that transformation possible.

What's Next for Kakamega Global Star Academy?

As Geoffrey prepares to share the next chapter of the Kakamega Project, he has outlined the school's most urgent priorities for the second half of 2026.

Every contribution, no matter the size, helps provide stability, resources, and opportunities for the children to continue learning and thriving.

Every Child Deserves to Be Understood

The story of the little boy hiding in the sugar cane fields reminds us why this work matters.

No child should be afraid of learning.

No child should believe they are "not clever enough."

When children are understood, encouraged, and allowed to learn in ways that suit them, they begin to discover something wonderful: they can succeed.

At Kakamega Kindergarten, that transformation is happening every day.

Thank you to everyone who continues to support this journey. Together, we are helping children replace fear with confidence, curiosity, and hope.

How You Can Help

Every child deserves the opportunity to learn in an environment where they feel safe, understood, and inspired.

Your support helps provide learning resources, teacher training, multi-sensory materials, clay for creative learning, outdoor play equipment, and opportunities for children to discover their unique strengths.

Whether you choose to share this story, make a donation, or simply tell others about the Kakamega Project, you become part of a community that believes every child deserves the chance to reach their full potential.

Together, we can continue transforming classrooms, empowering teachers, supporting families, and changing lives, one child at a time.
