It isn't just a logo.
It tells the story of everything I believe about life, learning, and the people I have the privilege of working alongside. Every part has meaning.
At the centre is a tree.
Its roots reach deep into the ground. Its trunk stands strong. Its branches stretch upwards, and every leaf represents another choice for life and learning.
Growing doesn't happen all at once.
It happens one choice at a time.
Then there are the birds.
Above the tree are birds rising together.
They remind me of a morning that changed the way I understood learning.
Many years ago, en route to a client, I stopped beside the Waikato River at Mercer. Dawn was breaking as rays of sun through the grey clouds. I observed a man releasing homing pigeons.
They rose into the sky together, formed a perfect circle, found their bearing, and then flew towards home, two hundred miles, without a map.
In that moment, I understood something that has stayed with me ever since.
Orientation is the key.
Not just for pigeons.
For people too.
This is where Davis® Methods begin—not with reading or spelling, but with finding a stable orientation point from which everything else becomes possible.
When orientation is facilitated, everything begins to align, and the learning path clears.
The three waves
At the base of the logo are three flowing colours.
They represent the three spaces we hold:
Life Force – the urge to be who and what "I" am.
Body – our physical form.
Mind – our thought processes.
Participating fully in life and learning happens across all three spaces.
Over the years, I've seen what happens when people locate and work with their orientation.
Some clients arrive walking on their toes, stumbling forward, unable to find their balance. Some have never slept through the night. Some have spent years feeling disconnected from their family. Others have tried and tried but still can't hold the words on the page.
Many arrive carrying labels such as dyslexia, ADHD, or autism.
Although every story is different, they have one thing in common.
When orientation is facilitated, everything begins to shift.
In the Body, balance steadies. Movement flows more naturally, and sleep begins to regulate.
I've seen children arrive walking on their toes and, by morning tea, stand tall and walk straight.
In the Mind, clarity arrives. Learning that once felt impossible begins to make sense, and confidence grows.
People achieve things they once believed were out of reach. They read books, write stories or or pass their academic studies more easily. Work starts to feel manageable.
In Life Force, identity is restored. People reconnect with who they truly are, new interests emerge, and families reconnect.
They begin participating fully in life and learning.
And that leads to something even deeper.
From orientation comes identity. Instead of living as our symptoms, we begin living as ourselves.
From identity comes belonging. When we know who we are, we can take our place in the world and bring to it our unique perspective and way of being.
Nature reminds me of this every day.
Walk through a New Zealand wetland forest, and you'll see kahikatea standing tall in the water, with their tall aerial roots holding them sturdy above the water line, harakeke growing with strength and purpose, cabbage trees beside the stream, and ferns quietly unfurling beneath them.
Every plant is different. Every plant has its own purpose.
Every plant belongs.
The forest is complete because each one is there.
I believe people are the same.
Neurodiversity is human diversity.
Neurodiversity mirrors biodiversity.
Every brain belongs in the ecosystem.
